Seasonal flowers, arranged by hand

Little gestures / From the FLOR journal

A gentle guide to gifting flowers

Flowers can say congratulations, thank you, I am thinking of you — or simply, this made me think of you. The best gift begins with the person receiving it, rather than the size of the bouquet.

Start with their everyday

Think about the colours they enjoy, the space they live in and how they like to receive things. Someone who loves a small, quiet gesture may prefer a loose posy to a grand arrangement. A person who fills their home with colour might enjoy something bolder.

Practical details are part of the kindness. If they may not have a vase, choose an arrangement in a vessel. If you are sending flowers to a workplace or a hospital, check that deliveries and flowers are welcome before ordering.

Everyday floral arrangement

01 / Just because

No occasion required

A seasonal bouquet on an ordinary day can be especially memorable. Choose a few beautiful stems, loosely gathered, and keep the message simple. There is no need to explain the gesture at length.

A little note

“These made me think of you. I hope they bring a lovely moment to your day.”

02 / Birthdays, milestones & thank-yous

Make it feel like them

For a celebration, let the palette carry the personality. Soft blush and ivory can feel romantic; a touch of burgundy adds depth. Seasonal flowers give the gift its own character, rather than looking identical every time.

For a thank-you, be specific in the card. A few words about what their kindness meant will stay with them after the flowers have faded.

A little note

“Thank you for showing up for me. Your kindness meant more than you know.”

03 / Comfort & quieter days

Leave room for a simple gesture

When someone is grieving or having a difficult time, you do not need to find perfect words. A gentle arrangement and a short, sincere message can offer care without asking anything of them.

Choose with their preferences in mind. A restrained palette can feel peaceful, but there is no rule that comfort must be white. Their favourite flowers or colours may be the most thoughtful choice.

A little note

“Thinking of you, and sending a little love. There is no need to reply.”

It is the thought that makes the flowers a gift.

Add their name, write a few honest words, and let the bouquet do the rest.
